Tonight the Peloton Against Plastic will host Rubber Jellyfish The Movie
It’s a sell out!
More evidence perhaps that there is a mood for change and people are looking to learn about not only the damage caused by ridiculous single-use plastics but also what we as individuals can do about it?
As we start to settle into 2019 it feels like we are being asked everyday about attending events like beach clean-ups, ideas for solving the issues of fishing litter for example and people wanting to collaborate to plant trees or clean up the environment.
Rubber Jellyfish is bringing light to the dangers of what has seemed like the norm to many people for decades. Mass balloon releases, handing out helium balloons to children at a fair or ‘decorating’ a party are not only unnecessary but absolutely no different to littering.
With this film, attendance by teams behind Plastic Free Wollongong, Surfrider South Coast and Wildlife Rescue South Coast. We hope attendees can walk away with some actions on keeping this momentum rolling towards a world without pointless waste.
Personally I am seeing a difference in the litter at the beach level. 5 years ago the beach would be covered in plastic waste after a busy summers day, this summer there are patches obviously left by a single group that don’t get it. There will always be a few that don’t get it, and for these folk we look to bans, taking decisions out of their hands.
So what can you do?
- Host a film like Rubber Jellyfish to raise awareness and offer ideas to help people get involved in your local area
- Organise a clean-up at a local beach, park or street – Earth bottles have created a wonderful resource for organising a clean-up.
- Collect some data – Your town might be obviously suffering from a few items that you can target in local campaigns
- Work with the local council and see if they will assist, with enough enthusiasm they will
- Eat in or drink in – Go reusable all the way and invite others to rest and enjoy with you
- Work with us. If you want to help local food venues become ocean friendly and be listed on the fair food forager app with a plastic free icon get in touch here and we can send you some information.
